I want to include an aspect of narration to this piece. One of my written pieces will be juxtaposed with the clips, in oversized, plain black and white text.

Waiting

A pigeon on the

scaffolding of a building

contemplating suicide,

like something in a forgotten drawer

that waits to be touched. I am fascinated by

these moments & conversations and blinking eyes.

A hospital vandalized by the crooks of our necks.

Sometimes running away is as easy as running

your fingers through your hair.

I want the audio to possess an unnerving feeling of paranoia and anxiety. To execute this, I’m going to mix an audio track using this this clip from the psycho-thriller movie “Carrie”, with other audio clips sharing the same theme. I will mix these audio clips with my own audio that I will create using Absynth.

 Silent Snow Secret Snow (1934)

The story tells of a boy named Paul Hasleman, who finds it increasingly difficult to pay attention to his classwork, and grows more distant from his family. He is, instead, becoming more and more entranced by daydreaming about snow. This began when he was lying in bed one morning, awaiting the approach of the postman. Unable to hear the expected footfalls, the boy imagines that they have been muffled by newly fallen snow, and is surprised when he looks out the window and discovers that there is no snow on the ground.

Paul’s increasing distance and indifference to the world around him alarms his parents. He has to struggle to get dressed and converse with others, because of the allure of his daydream about snow. They eventually call in a physician, who makes a house call to examine Paul. After revealing that he likes to think about snow, Paul tears himself away from the meeting with the physician and retires to his room. When his mother pursues him, he tells her “Go away… I hate you!”, and is lost in the dreamworld of the snow.

Project Brainstorm

I think I have a pretty basic idea as to what I want my projects to be.

News demo reel:

My first idea is to create news stories for my demo reel for when I enter the workplace. In the broadcast journalism field, it’s crucial to not only be able to write compelling stories, but you also need to master the art of telling that story through sound and video. This is my primary goal for this class. My hope is to, by the end of this course, have a pretty solid demo reel that I will be able to take into interviews.

Here’s one of my news packages from WSBT…

Also, I do work for a local boutique doing their brand communications/digital marketing, and want to produce a series of web blogs for the company. I’d also like to produce a commercial.
